Picture 7: An Orchestral Masterpiece

Here is a vision that should inspire us to forge ahead towards Fruitfulness in Music Ministry - the production of the ultimate Orchestral Masterpiece. Imagine being involved in such a performance, where excellent musicians respond as one with rich and colourful expressions, as a great conductor evokes their best performance by reflecting the life and essence of a great musical score conceived by a master composer. There is something very special about large numbers of musicians playing their instruments in perfect time and in tune with each other to produce the complete range of tone colours and sonorities in exquisite harmony. The creatively expressive interpretation of a great composer's intention, and the faithful re-creation of that intent in real time, is one of humanity's greatest achievements. It is as if the printed score comes to life with each new performance. When truly great music comes together in this way, 'goose bumps' abound among performers and audience alike, and we realise that it has been a privilege to have shared in that moment. This is not just entertainment, or a passing emotional high. It is nourishment to the soul.

As one who majored in Composition, while recognising that my music is not likely to reach such heights, I have had that lingering, private aspiration to create such a masterpiece.

Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast,
Save in the death of Christ, my God,
All the vain things that charm me most
I sacrifice them to His blood.

- Isaac Watts "When I Survey"

I have aspired to be a conductor – creating masterpieces….
But MUSIC MINISTRY is about expressing the Divine Masterpiece….

For we are God's workmanship, [MASTERPIECE] created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
