The Eaton Diary of London    2001

Friday, August 10.

Within a short bus ride from our flat is another of London's wonderful parks - Richmond Park. It is amazing to find such large open spaces in such a densely populated city. It might appear to some to be a waste to have all this space available, while accommodation space is so scarce and overcrowded, but really it is the salvation of this city. It is a credit to the city planners and city authorities that they have resisted the temptation to subdivide Parks for housing. So now, within minutes we can leave the block of flats that we share with a hundred or so people, and find ourselves walking in solitude in Richmond Park and communing with nature and wild animals! What a privilege.
