LESSON 6
|
P.6 |
|
AIM: |
To build a TRIAD on any note. |
What is a CHORD?
 | A CHORD is a group of notes played
together and the same time.
 |
CHORDS create HARMONY. |
|
What is a TRIAD?
 |
A TRIAD is a 3-note CHORD, made up of
notes an interval of a THIRD apart
A B
C
D
E
F
G
A B C D E F G
|
 |
We use SCALES to build TRIADS.
 |
3-note CHORDS are built by
choosing 3 notes and playing them
together, at the same time. |
 |
Most common chords use alternate
notes of the scale: |
|
e.g. C
D
E
F
G
A B
C
or C
D
E
F
G
A
B C
or C
D
E
F
G
A
B
C
 |
This means that a "C" chord
will have
the notes of C, E, and G playing at the
same time.
(We will learn later about different types of chords)
|
 |
Try playing different 3-note chords
 |
Choose any white note, then:
 |
Play that note
 |
miss one white note |
|
 |
Play the next white one
 |
miss one white note |
|
 |
Play the next white one |
|
 |
Play the 3 notes together
(Use your Thumb, middle & little fingers) |
 |
Move up and down the keyboard
playing all the TRIADS you can find. |
 |
Listen to the different sounds
they make.
|
|
 | Move the mouse over the chords in
the TRIAD FINDER to find the notes of
each triad on the Keyboard. |
 | Click to hear the Triad. Compare with
what you play on your keyboard. |
