  To Practise sight singing for Choir - Treble Clef

Solfa:


You will sing using the Tonic Solfa syllables:

bullet

do   re   mi   fa   sol   la   ti   do

Moveable 'do', so you will learn to read in any key.

 

 

10 Levels:


There are 10 Levels of increasing difficulty.

  1. sol mi

  2. sol mi la 

  3. do mi sol

  4. do mi sol la

  5. do re mi sol la

  6. do re mi fa sol

  7. do re mi fa sol la

  8. do re mi fa sol la do

  9. do re mi fa sol la ti do

  10. ti do re mi fa fi sol la ti do

 

Instructions:


CLICK on a link in the RH column to go to a Level.

[Ctrl CLICK if Pop-up windows are disabled in your Browser] A new full screen window will open, displaying that Level. If the exercise is not visible, go to SCORCH [New window] because the exercises use this ActiveX plug-in that is compatible with most recent Browsers.

 

 

Make sure that the audio is working on your computer, and is not muted. 

 

 

Click on the Play button so start the Level.

Click on the Exit button to finish and close the Level's window and return to this page.

 

 

The Levels are set at a moderate tempo, but you can use the tempo sliding in the Scorch window to adjust the tempo if necessary.

 

 

Use the TRANSPOSE button to repeat the Level in different keys. This will help you get used to Sight Singing in all keys.  
[Always Exit the Level and Close the window to "Refresh" the Scorch file between Transpositions]

There are 10 examples in each Level.

Each example is a

STATEMENT followed by your

So, you need to

WATCH (and Listen), then

bullet

SING your response.

Note that the examples in some Levels have a "Swing Feel" accompaniment.


 

Examples 1-3:

In Examples 1 - 3, you will see and hear 
both the STATEMENT and RESPONSE,
with their Solfa names given.

 

Examples 4-6:

In Examples 4 - 6, the Solfa names will be given in the STATEMENT, but not in the RESPONSE. You will need to sing the Solfa names unprompted.

 

Examples 7-10:

In Examples 7 - 10, no Solfa names will be given and you won't hear the pitches first, but just the accompanying chords. So you will have to:

WATCH (and think the names and pitches without hearing them), then

bullet

SING your RESPONSE.
